What is your Nigerian dream?

By Shally A.

Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily or voluntarily in the mind.
A dream is an intensity that burns in the soul.
Dreams are seeds for future harvest.

Somehow we all have created a dream of what we want to achieve in life and maybe like me places we want to journey to before we die. It is beautiful to burn with passion for a personal dream because it drives and compels you. It gives life meaning.

But beyond our personal dreams what are our collective dreams? That dream that unites us and creates a common vision and goal. A dream that breaks language, cultural, religious and racial barriers. A dream that builds nations and sustain generations. United we stand, divided we fall!

I strongly believe to build our nation we must have a common dream of who we hope to be and what we want to attain. We must have a Nigeria dream, a Nigerian ethos or idea. My question is, what is the Nigerian dream?

Leaning from America, we understand the importance of having a dream. The American Dream is rooted in the United States Declaration of Independence which proclaims that "all men are created equal" and that they are "endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights" including "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

James Truslow Adams in 1931 defined the American dream, "life should be better and richer and fuller for everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement regardless of social class or circumstances of birth.”

I ask again, what is your Nigerian dream?  You can share that dream here.

Finally, I leave you with a quote from Bishop David Oyedepo:
Success and outcomes are predictable and today will not be different from tomorrow if we keep doing the same things. We are made or marred by our choices and one of the choices we must make today is to be deliberate about painting the right pictures. As seeds are to the farmer so also are dreams to realities. You cannot feature in a future you do not picture.
